STAND YOUR WATCH

Traveling to Europe, I have visited many castles that had once stood as mighty fortresses, but now only whisper of a time when kings and queens walked the halls, their eyes and ears open for signs of insubordination. Many of these castles had, in strategic places, a watchtower where trusted men would be placed round the clock to watch for an enemy approaching. It would be critical for the people within the walls of the castle to be alerted as soon as possible of an impending battle so that they could ready themselves. Life depended greatly on the watchman’s ability to see far into the distance, and to remain alert at all times.

In today’s times, God calls us to be watchmen for ourselves, our families, and our friends. We are to be spiritually alert, watching for the enemy to rise up and wage war. Habakkuk 2:1 says “I will take my stand at my watch post and station myself on the tower, and look out to see what he (the Lord) will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint.”

Standing alert requires you to be a diligent student of God’s Word. The Lord will speak to you through His Word. He may give a warning to you about a situation you are facing, or He may give you words of encouragement as you stand.

Perhaps God will give you this warning or encouragement to pass to someone else, a friend or family member, who is struggling or facing danger. They may have missed God’s warnings if they were not alert and perhaps God is using you to bring His Word to them, to prepare them for what is coming on the horizon. Be diligent in your watch! Be ready to hear what God has to say to you. What is on your horizon? Is there a danger lurking in the distance? Don’t get caught by surprise! It’s time to stand your watch!
