HELD THROUGH EVERY CHANGE
| This year, I have two grandchildren starting kindergarten—a new school, new teachers, new friends—a very big change. This year, I have two of my own children making big moves to new areas, which means new neighbors, new friends, new churches, and new jobs. This is also a time when kids are going off to college for the first time, or those who have graduated may be starting a new job in a new location. Change can be, and is, hard, but Jesus has already told us that we would have to walk through hard things while in this life. However, He also makes a big promise: “So, do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). What a promise! As we move forward on the path that God has laid out for us, we don’t have to be afraid because He is right there holding our hand. Notice it says nothing about our ability to hold His hand. Like a little child, I often let go of my Father’s hand, thinking I can do something on my own, but this promise tells us that even when we let go, our God will never let go of ours. In Middle Eastern culture, both in biblical times and today, the right hand signifies honor and blessing. Our wonderful Father is telling us that because He has called us and chosen us (Isaiah 41:9), He will hold us in a place of honor and blessing as we serve Him in the places He takes us. So, walk with confidence in whatever hard thing God is asking you to do, because He is holding your hand with His righteous right hand! |
