ABOUT

The Family

Welcome friends! I am happy to be able to share with you a little of who Lisa Whitaker is. First and foremost I am a follower of Jesus. I grew up in a Christian family where my Mom was a music director in church and where my Father was often seen singing in the choir. I began my walk with Jesus at a young age and though it was not a perfect walk I have always trusted that He was there for me and loved me. I am a mom of 4 grown children (Talor, Kyle, and twins Aaron & Ethan) and I have been married to my husband, Steve for 35 years. Two of our children have married and I am loving the joys of being a grandparent (Nana).

I am a writer and a speaker for Hold Fast Ministries, a project which began after one of our sons made the decision to attend the U.S. Naval Academy. I have been learning to “hold fast” to God’s promise in Hebrews 6:18-20 of having a sure and firm anchor, as we embark on a journey with now having two sons in the Military. This journey has put me in a position to help others to hold fast to this anchor during the difficult times in their life as well.

Having been an athlete all of my life, I continue to enjoy swimming, occasionally competing with the United States Masters Swimming Team – Duneland Masters. I also enjoy walking (a great compromise to running when your knees have had enough running) and have taken up biking with friends and my husband (who is way faster). My favorite time of day is the early morning when I can sit in our room of windows with my coffee and look out across the open fields, watching God’s creation awaken from slumber and spend time in the scriptures and writing. Writing and journaling are two things that bring so much joy to my life. Recording in a book the personal things that God and I share together helps to encourage me when I can look back and see how He has answered prayer and shown me grace. Writing, researching, and preparing for speaking events also get me excited as I experience how God leads and winds me through scripture to produce His message. I believe that if you take the time to quiet yourself before the Lord, He will always meet you there in a big way!

FYI: The term “HOLD FAST” is an old sailor’s term that means to hold onto the lines fast when the ship is aloft in bad weather, so sailors would not be thrown off. These words served as a special reminder to hold on and persevere during tough times.

Our family has 2 dogs (or fur babies as we see them), Big (otherwise known as Biglet), and our newest edition, Marlon. Sadly, this year we had to say goodbye to our beloved Oliver, a pup that will forever be in my heart (read my blog post titled “A Time of Mourning”). Our family has always lived in Indiana but we love to make frequent trips to Naples, Florida (especially in the wintertime).
