Masterpiece
It’s early morning and I sit quietly on my front porch and watch as all of creation awakens from slumber. The sky loses its grip on darkness and in its place are the most beautiful shades of pink and orange. The colors deepen and become bolder as the sun reaches the horizon and then like the grand climax in a symphony, the sun bursts into view. The birds sing their praises as if they are erupting in applause for the amazing display before them and the wind gently sways, keeping tempo. I close my eyes and I listen as all of creation sings to their creator, each of them building in crescendo and then softening as if giving voice to another. How beautiful the sound! How beautiful the painting – the artwork that appears as the music plays on. It’s as if God has turned on his stereo in his art studio as he works on yet another masterpiece and I get to sit quietly in the corner and watch it unfold.
As I sit in my corner observing, Jesus begins to speak, my heart is listening. He reminds me of two things that concern his masterpieces: 1. All of his creation points to him. Romans 1:20 say’s “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities- his eternal power and divine nature- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” 2. That I am one of God’s works of art! A masterpiece fashioned by His own hands. Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Psalm 139:13-16 say’s this, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body ALL (all caps mine) the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” As God speaks these truths, my heart joins with the rest of creation and sings at the realization that God sees me as a work of art – his masterpiece. Is your heart singing this day? Did you know that you are God’s masterpiece and that all of creation sang His praises when He created you?
