IN THE STILLNESS OF THE MORNING

My soul waits in the stillness of the morning, Lord. Show me your wonders as my eyes watch and wait for the sunrise. Awaken my soul to your Words; speak to me, Jesus.
The light begins to emerge and glitters of gold ripple across the waters. The sky, with its clouds of blue and grey, start to transform into hues of pink and orange before my eyes. The mist rises from the warm waters in the coolness of the morning and the wildlife emerges to watch with me. Sing, oh birds of different kinds! Sing sweet geese with your honks of joy! Join in, you hidden crickets with your rhythmic hums. The Creator is creating a new morning. Tears well up in my eyes! It is magnificent to watch Him work! My soul begins to awaken. Come, Lord, fill me with a freshness of your Spirit!

Rejoice, my soul for the morning has come! God has made it new!
“And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day” (Genesis 1:3-5).
What must the first sunrise and the first sunset have looked like? The splendor and glory that the Creator splashed across the sky must have been incredible! I can imagine the angels standing in awe, leaning in to watch Him work sending the vibrant colors dancing over the expanse. Oh to have been there that first day!
I close my eyes and feel the warmth of the sun against my face as time seemed to stand still. You are here, Lord, I can feel you beside me watching with me, smiling at the joy in my heart. I turn my palms up and lift my hands. I’m here, Jesus, and I am yours. Help me to learn to abide with you always. Thank you for meeting me in the stillness of the morning.
